History Of BMW

BMW is the predecessor of Motorenwerke Rapp. April 1917 the company changed its name to BMW GmbH (Co. Ltd. BMW) and a year later BMW AG (BMW Corporation), first director until 1942 was Franz Josef Popp (1886-1954) . Prominent engineer Max Friz was quickly made a reputation in this young company: in 1917 he invented an aircraft engine with carburetor altitude operations. Because the engine has a capacity of thin air at high altitudes. This design passes the test well to the extent that BMW received orders from more than 2,000 engines Prussian Army Command. June 17, 1919 a BMW IIIa secretly achieved the world record at 9,760 meters altitude. But at the end of World War One and the Versailles Peace Treaty was born like that's the time of termination of the company: the Peace Treaty banning the production of aircraft engines in Germany in the past 5 years . The main shareholders in 1922 Camillo Castiglioni leave the company to carry on the brand rights. He transferred to Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFW - Bavarian aircraft plants).
The forerunner of this company is Gustav-Otto-Flugzeugwerk (aircraft factory Gustav Otto) by Gustav Otto, a son of the inventor of the internal combustion engine (internal-combustion engine) Nikolaus Otto, registered on 7 March 1916. March 7, 1916 is considered as the founding date in the history of official BMW company. At the same time when moving about Castiglioni, BFW has become a BMW.
One year after changing its name, in 1923, Max Friz and Martin Stolle design BWM first motorcycle, the R32, and thereby lay the foundation for a road production of new motorcycles. Friz just five weeks to draft the R32. The main principle of this motorcycle still remains to this day: boxer engine and axle joints used in the published twin tube frame.
Aircraft engines continue to be produced in 1924.

1928 BMW bought the company Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach (Eisenach car factory), manufacturers of small cars Dixi and thus began the rise of automobile production. March 22, 1929 BMW production car first. This car is called 3 / 15 PS and manufactured under license by the British company Autin Seven of Austin Motor Company. This vehicle is assembled in Berlin, which also started selling car for the first time on June 9, 1929. Because the manufacture of aircraft engines began to be expanded rapidly starting in 1933 should branch motorcycles and cars almost become secondary purpose. Despite this new development models, such as 326 (1935), 327 (1937) and Sport-328 Roadster was introduced in 1936 are attractive models. Especially the 328 models are not convinced by the outstanding design, but also thanks to the many achievements in sports car races, but one of which is the prize in 1940 Mille Miglia. Models has brought fame to BMW as a manufacturer of sports cars. The British prefer this car to the Frazer-Nash has manufactured vehicles under the license while they were using imported engines from BMW in 1934.
During World War Second
After the outbreak of war BMW almost entirely focused on manufacturing aircraft engines, including engines circular (radial engine) up to 2000 BMW 801-horsepower engine is one of the most important, but fitted to the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. In addition, BMW also produced motorcycles for the German army tanks.
After the war
In 1945 the main factory in Munich was almost completely destroyed and the Eisenach automobile plant was awarded to the Soviet army, in 1952 the factory became state-owned factories. So still full of tools of production, immediately after the war this factory can produce pre-war models, also under the name "BMW". Because BMW in Munich not acceptable car can offer under this name that may not affect production through the court should have barred the plant in Eisenach to use this name in 1951. The products of the factory in Eisenach is then sold under the brand "EMW". Because never in Munich carmaker until that time and the factory was bombed as well as to remove it until in 1951 BMW introduced new can be the first car after the war.
The BMW 501 was introduced as a more expensive type of car was originally equipped with a 6 cylinder, then the V8. Unfortunately, this vehicle production costs to the extent that BMW is a 4000 DM per hole. Besides the sale of motorcycles began to slow down from mid-1950 would also be a major problem for employers. Isetta small car production under license of the group from Italy in 1955 ISO can not help it deal with the financial crisis worsening go quickly.
He almost bought
After two years of fiscal 1958 and 1959 heavy losses, the shareholders' meeting on Dec. 9, 1959 is full of the tragedy. Board of Directors and management, both are placed by Deutsche Bank, BMW offers to sell to the Daimler-Benz (companies in which the main shareholder is Deutsche Bank) and if the proposal is that the stock small shareholders almost completely lost property. The fate of the BMW seems to have been determined for representatives of Deutsche Bank for about half the equity due to the voting rights of the shares deposited at the bank. But the different events: the small shareholders were against this proposal to buy thanks to the help of Dr lawyer. Mathern Friedrich sue balance account. This is just 10% of the vote. Balance sheet account is actually erroneous because the cost of manufacturing a new automobile model 700 is gradually completed within only one year. So the acquisition BMW has failed.
Start rising again
BMW continues to exist independently, but still short of money to develop tourism midsize models are urgently needed. At this point the industrialist Herbert Quandt in Bad Homburg out his plan. He said after revaluation cut down the existing capital and issuing more shares to raise capital, he will buy all the unsold shares. This has happened, the group's capital investment Quandt increased about 60% and banks lost power in the BMW. Through and through the sale of turbine factory in Allach BMW have sufficient financial means to develop new midsize passenger car. This models the characteristics of a luxury car but has a high engine power, in the 1960s is not available on the market. In 1962 the new 1500 models of the new type is introduced after the initial difficulties the models 1800 and 2000 were great success and there is further strengthened by the victory in the race. BMW began to rise rapidly to form car-Zwei Null (no-two) was introduced in 1966 and since then BMW became one of the most dynamic companies in the sector.
